"Beyan means Love in Boruca"
When I lost my job last year to Covid, I went back to my country (Costa Rica) and helped my family clean up a place they bought for a restaurant, I was planning a traditional costa rican food place that will include indigenous dishes, I went to learn from Boruca people in the southern part of the Pacific coast. I was received by Santos Lazaro, one the master wood carvers for their traditional masks and his sister Juana Lazaro, she is in charge of the cooking and weaving the traditional textiles. They were more than happy to show me how they do it.
Santos told me that their community's main income is tourism and selling their masks and textiles and that Covid had put them in a bad situation. In our conversation he told me of a dream he had to teach a group of single mothers how to make the masks so they can have an income for their families and we set up a GoFundMe and made it happen!
Now we are selling their masks and textiles for them to help them thrive; the products are available here in the US ready to be shipped and make your house beautiful and bring good vibes.
Our masks are one of a kind.
Please check our Gallery for masks that we have sold in the past to order a similar one. Keep in mind no masks are identical which is what makes them so special.
